Why DavantAI exists

An opportunity that is both large and historically underexplored

Chronic pain is not a niche condition. It is one of the most prevalent, burdensome, and economically costly healthcare challenges globally — and yet, compared to many other areas of similar scale, it has received disproportionately little innovation in terms of longitudinal intelligence.

The availability of wearables, the maturity of large language models, and the growing capacity for multimodal signal integration create, for the first time, a genuine technical opportunity to build what the field has always needed: a continuous, patient-specific intelligence layer for pain.

DavantAI exists to seize that opportunity — with the right scientific foundations, the right clinical relationships, and the right ambition to build something that lasts.

Juan Manuel Martín Menéndez is the CEO and co-founder of DavantAI. He leads the company’s strategy, product vision, partnerships, and business development, with a focus on building a new intelligence layer for chronic pain.

But our ambition is not local. Chronic pain affects people everywhere, and the intelligence infrastructure we are building is designed from the outset to scale — across geographies, languages, pain conditions, and care systems. It requires creating an evolving intelligence system capable of learning from individual patient journeys and, over time, from the broader reality of chronic pain.

That path begins with the multimodal digital twin of pain and two connected AI-Assistants — one for patients and one for clinicians. Together, they are designed to transform fragmented signals into longitudinal, patient-specific understanding and to create a continuous learning loop between everyday experience and clinical care.

As the system expands across more patients, pain conditions, clinical environments, and sources of data, we envision this intelligence evolving into the Pain Intelligence Platform: an infrastructure through which new applications, research capabilities, and models of personalized pain care can be developed.

Beyond the platform lies a longer-term scientific ambition: to advance toward a Foundation Model of Pain — a model capable of learning the shared patterns and individual differences that shape how pain emerges, evolves, and responds to intervention.

The digital twin is where we begin. A deeper and more general intelligence for pain is where we are heading.
